How do I set up an appointment with the career services?

How can I get help with a resume or cover letter?

There are several resources for writing resumes and cover letters available to students. Basic resume information may be covered during the professional development workshops. There are also resources on the Handshake platform that cover resume writing tips. Additionally, you can set up a meeting with the career services coordinator and sign up for a 鈥渞esume review鈥� appointment. One important note is that Career Services does not recommend using free "resume builder" templates that you may find online. Using a resume builder increases the risk that your resume will look just like other ones made from the same tool. A better option is to open a blank Word document and begin creating your own customized resume.

I am not sure what career goals I should have do you provide career counseling?

Yes. Career counseling can be provided by the Career Services Coordinator. Additionally, students should meet with their academic advisor to discuss how to successfully complete their degree or certificate programs and obtain their academic goals. If students are interested in transferring to a four-year institution, they should contact the transfer office.

I鈥檓 only a first-year student should I be thinking about professional development?

When is the right time to start thinking about internships?

It's a good idea to apply for internships early. Therefore, it is recommended that you start seriously thinking about internships at least two semesters before you think you would like to complete your internship. This will give you adequate time to research different internship possibilities, understand the requirements, and meet with your faculty advisor.

What programs of study/majors are required to complete internships?

If you are in one of the above listed programs, you will have to complete an academic internship. Internships are generally completed towards the end of a student matriculating at the college. However, students must begin preparing for their internships the semester before they enroll in the internship course. *See pre-internship planning steps and deadlines sheet.

Students completing internships are expected to maintain a professional attitude and appearance, good attendance and punctuality always. Students must complete the pre-internship student questionaire form.

Where can I find internship or job postings?

Job and internship posting are listed on Handshake. Additionally, your departmental faculty advisor can provide you with for-credit internship information and possible internship opportunities specific to your program of study. The Coordinator of Career Planning and Placement will also be able to advise you on possible internship placement opportunities.

What help do you give students to find jobs or internships?

What is a mock interview?

A mock Interview is a practice interview designed to simulate a real job interview as closely as possible. Mock interviews are one of the best ways to improve interview skills. 滨迟鈥檚 a good practice to make mock interviews feel as close to the real thing as possible. You can do this by choosing a professional setting and dressing in the attire you would wear for an actual job interview. Videotaping mock interviews is always a good idea so you can evaluate your body language.

Here are a few tips. The following four websites offer quality information about salaries, CEO reviews, employee reviews, benefits summaries, and other insights that job seekers find valuable. Glassdoor, PayScale, Great Place to Work, and Indeed. Checking out a company鈥檚 social channels can give you a good feel for the company鈥檚 culture, the people who work there, and news about the company and its industry. Additionally, visiting the company鈥檚 website is where you can find details about its mission, projects, services, and employees. Searching for online reviews of the company might be helpful as well.

What is a career fair?

A career fair (also known as a job fair or career expo) is a recruiting event in which employers and recruiters meet with potential employees and where job seekers find out more about job openings. Job fairs serve as one of the primary connections between employers and prospective job candidates. There are many types of job fairs, but all serve a dual purpose of enabling hiring organizations to meet and screen many potential job or internship candidates and simultaneously providing job or internship seekers the opportunity to meet and screen a large number of employers. Job fairs can be categorized broadly into several distinct types, including campus-based, community-based, and company-specific. There are also virtual job fairs.
